Are You Crushing the 2nd Half of Your Life?

Spread the love

If so, how? If not, what’s holding you back?

Ever since I started receiving the AARP letters, I’ve been thinking about what it means to age. Well, I guess that’s not totally true. When I was young, I didn’t think I was going to make it to 30. I was partying my face off, waking up drunk, sleeping outside my door because I couldn’t find my key or the key hole. After I cleaned up (that’s another story) and reached the spry old age of 30, I thought, wow! I’ve made it this far, I’ll probably be around for a while.

I started thinking about what it would be like to reach 40, then 50, 60, 70, and beyond. Now I’m 50 and I feel like I’m just getting started. Back when I was 45, Joel Friel wrote a book, Fast After 50. I immediately bought it because I knew I would eventually reach that ripe young age and I wanted to be fast. I may not be the fastest 50 year old, but I’m always pushing myself to improve where I can.

21 years ago I ran my first marathon. I’ve since shaved off 90 minutes off that first marathon time. I’ve gone on to compete in Ironman, the Leadville MTB race, multiple Adventure Races, trail races, Ultras, climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and so much more. I’m not the athlete I used to be, I’m much more experienced and wiser.

Now—thanks to the messages we receive on a regular basis—I feel like the shoe is going to drop at some point. However, I’m determined to keep that shoe from dropping as far in the future as possible. So, what do I do about that? Here are a few tips that you can easily add to your life to stay young, feel energetic, and live healthy and happy!

Sleep – 7-9 hours per night

Exercise – 5-10 times per week (strength, cardio, mindfulness)

Push yourself – (your heart is a muscle and needs work)

Stop Smoking if you do.

Lower stress levels – Bring balance into your life.

Meditate – This helps with your stress levels.

Eat whole foods as much as possible. Organic when possible.

That’s a good start. Get going on your assignment. Let me know what questions you have. If you’re ready or need some assistance, let me know and we’ll start working together to optimize the rest of your life!
