She’s growing like a weed and I sure don’t want to miss a moment!
My baby girl is beginning to recognize me! Watching her grow is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever experienced. I don’t think words can describe what a magical process it is to watch, but I’m going to give it a humble try. I’m sure most parents feel the same. My wife and I have many friends with children and they all reinforce cherishing this time, when they are so young, because it’s so short and moves so quickly. I thought I’d get down some of my thoughts on paper.
When Madison was born, I would send out daily texts to my friends. I sent them for entertainment purposes only, of course. I wanted to keep my friends informed, as they are so happy for me, my wife and our new addition. People were sending notes and gifts, it was truly overwhelming. But like most things, that begins to fade. The daily knock on the door from the Fedex person, the overflowing mailbox, the check ins, all began to wane. I even slowed my daily texts.
Then the other night I realized something so true, so profound, and yet so simple, that I hope never to forget it. I realized that every day matters. Every day our little girl does something new, recognizes something more, holds her head up for a longer time, and even smiles. The list goes on and on, but what really hit me was that I was allowing the excitement I had to wane. Life is truly miraculous and especially when you watch it from day 1 or even from minus 210. Yes, it was amazing to watch my wife evolve into such an amazing pregnant woman and now an incredible mom.
At the same time, we each have the same miraculous days, it just may not look like it from the outside. That is the miracle of life that we loose so often during our adulthood. We get into our jobs, our to do lists, our monotony, and we begin to miss the truly miraculousness of life. I’ve found that this is a mindset. Like Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
I believe that it’s all a miracle and I’m so happy to exist, be human, and now, watch my little one grow! So, if you’re reading this and finding yourself unmotivated or stuck in your life, stop and pause for a second. Take a look around you. I would bet there is something miraculous very nearby. And here’s something better. Take a nice deep breath. And another. And another! All your faculties, like breathing, your heart beat, circulation, digestion, etc. are all incredible! Remember it’s simply up to us to choose to see it that way!
